Grofers to Improve their Sustainability Efforts by Recycling Plastic Waste

There is no viable path forward that does not take into account the needs of the future generations

Grofers, the online ordering platform that delivers food to its customers is trying to step up its efforts in order to improve its sustainability goals by finding useful ways to recycle plastic. They aim at requesting sustainability-oriented customers to donate 1-2 rupees to each of their purchases from the store to help in the procedure of recycling plastic wastes.

Grofers is known for their use of biodegradable packaging which they came up with last year in order to replace the industry’s food-grade plastic. Apart from that, they have also replaced the delivery packaging. They have taken the initiative to reduce the usage of plastic in packaging products like staples, atta, and sugar.

 The company quoted saying,
There is no viable path forward that does not take into account the needs of future generations.
The concept of sustainability entails that we live and work in the present in a manner that does not jeopardize the future.
As an organization that is dedicated to serving Indians for decades to come, sustainability is a core priority for Grofers.

Grofers have an 80% electric vehicle fleet in Gurugram. The company said, “To reduce carbon emissions, we deployed some electric vehicles – wherever we can with respect to replacing the normal CNG, Diesel or Petrol vehicles – moving from 4 wheelers to 2 wheelers…Overall, we have currently deployed close to 40-plus EV s with the 3PL partnership for last-mile delivery.”

The company said that they are planning to use the donated money towards recycling plastic wastage in the primary and secondary packaging of food products.

They believe this is one of the small measures that could create a concavity in the ongoing plastic pollution across the country.

Initiatives from companies such as Grofers are the need of the hour.

Sustainable development is the positive future for our world. In order to cut down on global emission rates, pollution and rapid climate changes, we need to depend more on sustainability rather than profit. In due course of time, our efforts will be rewarded based on our contributions.
