The Education Goal – Sustainable Development Goal 4 : Quality Education

“Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all”

Why is Education Goal so important?

Education is a Human Right. Education is the path leading to achieving Sustainable Development Goals. When citizens of all countries are educated, they can break the shackles of poverty. They earn more, live a healthy life and understand gender equality. Education helps to foster tolerance, contribute in building peaceful societies and reduce inequalities. Education empowers people with the knowledge, skills and values to live their lives with dignity,

The COVID-19 Pandemic

In early 2020 governments around the globe closed the schools as an action to reduce the spread of the covid19 pandemic. This resulted in the education disruption of millions of students from around the world. The duration of closures varied from region to region from a few weeks to many months. The fortunate students could join their classes online but have not missed nearly a full academic year. We Educators need to rise up and bridge the loss in learning of our students.

What fascinates me is Target 4.7 of SDG4! It states that:
Target 4.7 By 2030, ensure that all learners acquire the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development, including, among others, through education.

Education for sustainable development and sustainable lifestyles, human rights, gender equality, promotion of a culture of peace and nonviolence, global citizenship and appreciation of cultural diversity and of culture’s contribution to sustainable development.

Goals, advocate a sustainable lifestyle, celebrate Gender Equality and Human Rights our Education would If only in our schools we map our curriculum with the 17 Sustainable Development be relevant in all times. Nations can resolve global challenges through education for sustainable development (ESD) and global citizenship education (GCED), which includes peace and human rights education, as well as intercultural education and education for international understanding which is the need of the hour.

In our fourth episode of WE RiseUp4SDGs International Collaborative Project, we would be deliberating on #SDG4.
