A major push to Modi’s energy mission as government releases tender for 1.2GV Renewable energy storage. This is a step forward towards the objective of getting 175GW of Renewable energy by the Year 2022 by the Modi government.
The technological pioneer in the field of batteries Tesla now has dived in the solar energy sector. The company has come up with new technology in tapping solar energy, from this July the company started the installations of its photovoltaic roof tiles.
The first step of the Tesla roof installation is the underlayment, that works as the waterproof layer and also provides a skid-resistant surface to work on the roof. Then comes the metal framing that ensures the drainage of water and debris. This metal framing is made by Tesla itself. The intriguing part of the installation is the roof tiles of Tesla’s solar roof installation. Solar roof tiles are of two types :
1. Tiles in which solar cells are sandwiched between two tempered glass that produce power
2. Normal glass tiles that are used to fill in the nooks of the roof.
The PV tile come as a set of 3 tile module pre-wired set from the factory. This reduces the amount of effort and time needed to install the solar roof. Each PV Tile comes with its own set of built-in c-clip mounts and stand-offs that hold the top of the tile off of the roof, transferring any weight from above to the roof surface below while also serving to set the correct angle to allow water to run down the roof.
The durability of theses roof tiles is claimed to be 30 years and tesla is preparing for the mass production of these solar roof tiles to lower its cost. This technology could be a boon for the Indian market as it will be way more easy to implement this on the flat rooftops of Indian buildings.
India has already installed 80 GW of renewable energy according to the SECI in its way to an ambitious target of 175 GW of energy by 2022.
