The beautiful side-effect of lockdown

It is a glimpse of what the planet might look like in the absence of fossil fuel and less of human movement. Humanity could emerge from this horror into a healthier, cleaner world, and this will depend not on the short-term impact of the corona virus, but on the long-term political decisions made about what follows.

Key environmental indices, which have constantly deteriorated for more than fifty years, have paused or improved.  After decades of  perpetually increasing pressure, the human footprint on the earth has suddenly lightened. Air traffic  halved , road traffic fell drastically and with these, the planet has literally calmed.

Amid the global lockdown, scenes worthy of a good movie has emerged- from birds chirping and animals appearing on roads where the air is usually choked with smog. Nature has reset its button for good and we all need to be congratulated for each of our role in it!!
