While delivering his Independence Day speech in Bangalore, the honourable Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa disclosed the progressive plan to design a green space along the 400km of central canals in the city.
To reset the environment and social aspects, bicycle and pedestrian tracks would take shape near the canals, which would improve the basic infrastructure of the city.
To start with, the focus would be along the historic Rajakaluve, with the construction of over 30-km long pedestrian and cycling track which would display the featuring the cultural and social aspects of Bangalore.
This would represent a significant scaling up of the environment.
The project was still in its infancy, but that serious consideration was being made to implement it on the SWD K100 canal in the first stage. Stopping the flow of the sewage into the canals would be a real challenge for implementation, as the inflow of raw sewage into the canals is about 150 MLD (million litres per day), rather than the housing the greenery.
The planning is done taking into consideration, the varying width of the K100 canal. The idea is to accommodate greenery and tracks for bicycle and pedestrians effectively.
By growing plants of various species of plants in a special nursery planned on a huge area near Baiyappanahalli Metro station, the chief minister announced plans to grow “people-friendly” vegetation.
