Self-Sustenance and an Independent Nation

Why is being self-sustainable so very important? Does sustainability mean Independence for a nation?

A country’s success is based on its growth and the growth is reliant on self-sustenance. The more a country’s export and lesser its import make it successful. Make in India movement was an idea based on self-sustenance.

Self-sustenance is the ability for any given organization/nation/individual to continue in a healthy state of affairs without outside support. So back to my earlier question on whether sustainability meant Independence, the clear answer is –yes, being sustainable means being independent.

A country is truly independent only when it is capable of surviving on its own at least in the grass-root level.

May it be in terms of agriculture, technology, business etc. being self-sustainable will help the country grow immensely and self-reliant.

The recent developments with China is a wakeup call on why we should be more self- sustaining. For the fear of hackers, as many as fifty to sixty apps and programs were banned by the Indian government. Many of these apps were used daily by Indian citizens. The government is also planning to place stringent measures to cut imports from China which will harm the nation as China was one of the main importers of technology like mobile phones, laptops and other such gadgets. To balance this move, the Indian government is trying to boost and promote local companies to produce these gadgets. This is just an explanation as to why self-sustenance has become the need of the hour.

Nations like China should be given less chance to dominate the Indian market and we should promote the growth of the nation by supporting local businesses and companies.

In short, to be self-sustaining equals to be truly independent. It helps the nation grow at a better pace by supporting the local community and thereby preventing them from perishing.
