Middle East is the land located in Asia which is near the southern and eastern shores of the Mediterranean Sea, especially near the Arabian Peninsula. It consists of countries such as Israel, Iran, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Egypt among many others.
These regions are known for scarce rainfall and experience drought situations majority of a year.
Due to this reason, these regions are known for their advanced water management techniques as every drop of water in these region counts towards making a difference.
Some of the water management techniques which are used by countries in the middle east
Usage of solar power in agriculture and other sectors: The use of solar energy in agriculture has become a growing trend in the agriculture sector for middle east nations. Due to the scarcity of water and abundance of sunlight in these areas it is one of the most viable methods of generating electricity in the region. This includes the usage of solar panels in both the industrial and residential sector as well. This reduces the utility of water in generating electricity there by making it an effective water management method.
Drip irrigation: Another method of water management technique which is used in the middle east is drip irrigation. In this process water is allowed to drip slowly to the roots of the plants. This helps in watering the crops evenly while consuming less amount of water. The governments are promoting this method of irrigation among the local farmers. It is one of the most conservative form of irrigation followed in the middle east.
Water treatment Plants: Waste water is the only source of water that keeps increasing across the world. The other water sources are depleting in a rapid pace due to rise in temperatures and population boom. Treating the waste water is an effective way of conserving water and reusing it for other needs. Many plants have been set across middle east in order to treat sewage and other forms of dirty water.
Educating the public: The governments of middle east countries have started with programs that educate the general public on water management techniques and strict rules and regulations have been made to govern and ensure that the public follow these steps provided.
Water management has become the need of the hour for these nations, especially since the rise in temperature in recent times which have been caused due to global warming.
Many other countries across the globe can follow the example which has been set by these nations so as to conserve water and make it sustainable source for the generations to come.
