A circular economy is a type of economy where it aims to eliminate waste and make sure there is continual use of resources.
It is a system which creates a closed loop system by employing methods like reuse, sharing, repair, refurbish etc. so as to ensure that no resource is wasted.
Sustainable agriculture is a type of agriculture that focuses on the long-term productivity of crops rather than its immediate gains.
It also focuses on minimizing the effects that agriculture has on the environment. It is an effective tool which can be used by circular economy as it makes sure there is no wastage of any resource such as land, overall crop productivity etc. For a country which focuses on circular economy sustainable agriculture is a must, especially for countries like India which depends on agriculture for growth.
Below mentioned are some tips for sustainable agriculture which can help improve our nation’s overall yield and reduce wastage of resources:
- Drip Irrigation: Drip irrigation is a type of agriculture which uses pipes valves and other plumbing techniques to water the crops at its root in the form of water droplets which makes it more effective. This reduces the wastage of water and the plants get the right amount of water it needs.
- Contour ploughing: This is a technique where the ruts are used in a perpendicular method rather than slopes which are mad up of ploughs which then results in curved furrows which are in level. It prevents the soil from eroding and makes sure the productivity of the land remains constant and there is no wastage of water resource.
- Agroforestry: This is a technique which combines forestry with agriculture to create diverse productive profitable and sustainable land utilizing method. It is a process which uses combining of trees and shrubs with the crops. It prevents soil erosion and other affects of agriculture from making the land useless.
- No till farming: This technique does not use the process of tilling in agriculture but instead uses other techniques like usage of water which infiltrates soil increasing its nutrients and prevents soil from eroding. It increases the land yield and is used in many regions across the world.
Sustainable agriculture is a positive way ahead in a circular economy as it prevents the wastage of resources such as water, land etc. and improves the crop yield over a greater period of time.
