Germany and India have had a productive bilateral relationship for the last 60 years. Both the countries are partners in the United Nations and share common values on democracy and multi-lateralism. Germany supports the clean energy initiatives of the Indian government and is financing large-scale solar partnership projects to the tune of EUR 1 billion over the next five years taking into consideration the common interests on climate change and smart cities. In seven selected states with high potentials in renewable energy will create “green corridors” throughout India.
In his Brief conversation with Manjunath Gangadhar, Achim Burkart explained how well India and Germany would collaborate to make sustainability a reality through meaningful collaboration.
Germany also supports India’s Smart City Mission, especially in Coimbatore, Bhubaneshwar and Kochi. In Kochi, German companies have built the world’s first airport fully powered by solar energy. This has reduced the carbon footprint by over 3 lakh metric tons, which is equivalent to planting three million trees.
