Bringing a boost to the Electric Vehicles sector in the nation
A Delhi-based company called Battery Smart is setting up initiatives to exchange batteries on the go reducing the hassle for Electronic Vehicle users to charge their vehicle batteries. This initiative comes to light when people these days have started to buy EV’s over traditional vehicles in order to promote sustainability and due to the rise in oil prices. The new startup has partnered with many firms that deal with lithium-ion batteries.
All that the driver of the vehicle has to do is walk in and swap the batteries when the battery charge is low. There is a smart meter set up which acts as a fuel gauge and tells us when to change the batteries. The swap can cost anywhere between 100-150 rupees based on the type of battery being used and its capacity. The coverage range of each battery is between 70-75 Km per battery. There are a variety of subscription plans from which the customer can choose from says Pulkit who is the co-founder of this venture.
The firm says it is for the benefit of the EV owners this initiative is made. All the facilities and gadgets will be owned by companies like OEM’s and the stations will be given out on a contract basis.
“We are asset-light and the only IP we own is our software platform. We have GPS-enabled adapters and also temperature sensors on the vehicles that transmit location and temperature data respectively. These IoT devices are also not manufactured by us,” says Siddharth Sikka, co-founder, Battery Smart.
He was also quoted saying “We aim to have a swapping station every one-kilometer square area in Delhi-NCR region and in the next six months we will set up around 300 such stations. These locations will be based on the routes these drivers take so that they can locate the stations conveniently.”
Such an initiative is sure to bring a boost to the Electric Vehicles sector in the nation.
Due to the rise in global warming and the steep rise in fuel prices the Indian government also supports such initiatives regarding the sector. It is not just limited to India but across the globe, where countries promoting similar initiatives.
