An ecological strategy Farm to Fork/Farm2Fork is formulated under the European Green Deal. This emphasises an eco-conservative purpose in Europe’s food systems encompassing the production, distribution and consumption of food. Also referred to as F2F, the strategy’s fundamental thought is structured by the idea of food sustainability.
Although food from and in Europe is normally considered to be of high quality, the European Union aims to create and retain a food chain that is imperishable.
Apart from ecological aspects, this strategy brings in a sense of inclusivity among people where right from food companies, producers and consumers of various levels are involved in working towards a healthier and viable food chain.
The European Commission is also in partnership with Farm to Fork.
F2F holds a huge responsibility in terms of ecological contribution from the European Union on a universal level due to the amount of greenhouse gases it emits.
Sustainability of food and healthy food culture is not the only aspects that Food to Farm looks out for. The strategy is also produced to connect on a profound level with elements like biodiversity, climate change and ecology in general. This is to highlight the eco-consciousness that has been invested in F2F. The agenda was created with a framework of attributes that were beneficial to the environment as well as people.
European fishers, farmers and producers of aquaculture also render their support and involvement greatly to make this a successful initiative. Also, as for funding of this strategy, there are several schemes and plans which fall under the Common Agricultural Policy and Common Fisheries Policy that contribute financially.
By 2030, the European Union staunchly aims to reduce the usage and sales of fertilizers, pesticides, animal manures and antimicrobials through the various efforts of Farm2Fork.
The European Union moves forward collectively towards a balanced food system through the F2F strategy. This in itself simply refers to wanting to create a win-win situation for both the ecology and people. This concept of food sustainability through these means and ways is something that is to make its way globally for all the countries to follow and practice collectively in order to witness a fair coexistence of man and nature while consumption of food, a basic necessity.
Farm to Fork poses as an ideal strategy dealing with food security and safety, reversing the loss of biodiversity, ensuring research and innovation, fostering a positive impact on the environment, generating economic returns, mitigation of climate change and paves the way for much more possibilities. The European Green Deal has built the strategy with immense potential that new goals can be added throughout the journey of F2F.
