As part of Administrative Services, Mr Arun Maira has been a potential presence at the TATA Group for several years. Mr Maira joined the Planning Commission of India in 2000. He has an unusual combination of experience as a hands-on leader, a consultant to leaders and a thought leader on issues of leadership and institutional transformations in the private, public and social sectors. Mr Arun Maira has authored several books on institutional changes and writes regularly in professional journals.
He is currently the Chairman of Helpage International and an advisor to several civil society networks.
It was a great privilege for Smart Sustain, the media partner for the conference, to speak to Mr Arun Maira on the eve of the CRB’s flagship event 2021 with the theme: Accelerating and Reinforcing Transformative Change for Societal Resilience.
People lose trust in institutions of any kind these days, especially businesses as this damages the economy and environment. Unless institutions reform, the trust cannot be restored, he emphasized.
When it comes to achieving the SDGs, Mr Arun Maira reinforced, we need to think of the whole world rather than limiting ourselves to India alone. The institutionalized approach is crucial in making decisions for society and evaluating businesses for well being.
More open-minded conversations are required in solving the problem of the human race as he quoted Gandhi ji and Einstein during the brief interaction with Manjunath Gangadhar. CRB has to focus on these kinds of dialogues where the vulnerable are given the greatest opportunities to voice out along with the voice of the experts, he added.
New solutions are required for India as we scale high when it comes to the SDGs due to the vastness of the country, and dialogues created by CRB can create an impact if set in the right direction.
