Energy Storage The Higher Phenomena

Basically, The Concept of Energy Storage refers to the storage of energy for its use sometime in future and it also includes the conversion of the storage-wise difficult energy into more storage-easy and economically compatible form.

Today, there is no better alternative than the use of renewable energy if we talk about an environment-friendly system of consumption of energy for production and other motives. Under this comes the concept of Energy Storage, which primarily focuses on saving the excess energy in order to use it for a better tomorrow (both literally and metaphorically). One can observe the working of a rechargeable battery to understand the basic concept that how it contains chemical energy readily convertible to electricity to operate devices like mobile phone, camera, etc.

PROCESSES

There are many methods/processes that are used to store energy:

• Fossil Fuel Storage,
• Mechanical Storage, methods that convert electric energy into kinetic energy and then back again when electrical demand peaks.
• Hydroelectricity, Water is stored in the reservoir during periods of low demand and released when demand is high. The net effect is similar to pumped storage but without the pumping loss.
• Thermal Storage, Thermal energy storage (TES) is the temporary storage or removal of heat as a form of energy.
• Electrochemical, the storage of energy in its chemical form that can be easily converted to electricity for use.

• Power-to-gas is a technology that converts electrical power to gas fuel. When using surplus power from wind generation, the concept is sometimes called wind-gas.

• Biofuels, Various biofuels such as bio-diesel, vegetable oil, alcohol fuels, or biomass can replace fossil fuels. Various chemical processes can convert the carbon and hydrogen in coal, natural gas, plant and animal biomass, and organic wastes into short hydrocarbons suitable as replacements for existing hydrocarbon fuels.
• Thus, Storage of Energy will only increase the efficiency and this way there will be availability and a number of options to consume energy from in the future and most important point are that it gives pace to the use of Renewable energy more and more, making this a win-win situation for the human race.
