DLF’s ‘Mall of India’, situated in NOIDA became the first mall in the world to receive a ‘LEED Platinum’ certification from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). This paved the way for greener malls in the cities.

The retail project was accredited with this accolade from USGBC under Existing Building Operation and Maintenance category (EBOM), the company announced in a statement inspiring to build future structures with zero-emission.

The focus is on sustainability:

Rick Fedrizzi, David Gottfried, and Mike Italiano established USGBC in 1993 with a mission to promote sustainability-focused practices in the building industry. Representatives from around 60 firms and several nonprofits gathered that April in the American Institute of Architects’ boardroom for the founding meeting. It was then that ideas were shared for an open and balanced coalition spanning the entire building industry and for a green building rating system, which would later become LEED. Since the rating system’s unveiling in 2000, it has become an international standard for environmentally sound buildings, certifying hundreds of thousands of square feet per day.

LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a green certification program for building design, construction, operations, and maintenance. LEED is based on prerequisites and credits that a project meets to achieve a certification level: Certified, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. LEED works for all buildings anywhere.

Being the largest Mall of India with an area of 2 million sq. ft. , DLF Mall is the first mall in the world to receive this green certification which is conferred to buildings, homes, and communities that are designed, constructed, maintained and operated for improved environmental and human health performance.

“Sustainability is the way of life and a core pillar of our organization. It is a moment of great pride for DLF and the country as DLF Mall of India, Noida becomes the first and only mall in the world to be LEED Platinum Certified by USGBC under the Operational Category. With this, and our LEED Platinum Certified Rental Portfolio, DLF becomes the leader in sustainable practices with the largest portfolio of LEED Platinum Certified buildings by USGBC In India. ”, said Mr. Sriram Khattar- Managing Director, Rental Business, DLF Group.

“LEED Platinum Certification from USGBC, widely considered as a pinnacle of recognition in the area of sustainable practices, is a testament to our passion, drive, and commitment to sustainability. We would like to thank our esteemed tenants for their support which has helped us create the largest portfolio of LEED Platinum Certified buildings. We will continue to push the bar to create sustainable and environment-friendly buildings, firmly focused on continuous improvement on efficiency and positive impact on the environment,” he further added.
