The pandemic induced work-from-home (WFH) culture and led to online classes for students. This resulted in purchasing new technology to facilitate educators and students transition to remote teaching and learning during the pandemic. Nearly 75 per cent of them bought devices brand new to deal with the move from traditional classes to online remote learning classes.

The pandemic also led to a big spike in the “The Rising Tide of E-Waste,” and to an environmental catastrophe due to haphazard e-waste disposal.

India is the world’s third-largest producer of e-waste — electronic garbage such as iPad, laptops, mobile phones and electronic devices —after the US and China.

The Rising Tide of E-Waste led to more electronic devices than the number of people around the world. On average, each family dwelling in a city has at least 2 laptops and 4 mobile phones. A better understanding and more data on e-waste will contribute to the achievement of several goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The Rising Tide of E-Waste,” resulted in RiseUp4EWaste International Project for students. The aim of the RiseUp4Ewaste International Project is to develop the Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA) of students and educators to promote better understanding and management of E-waste.

A better understanding and management of e-waste is closely associated with Good health and Well-being #SDG 3, Clean Water and Sanitation #SDG 6, Sustainable Cities and Communities #SDG 11, Responsible Consumption and Production #SDG 12, Life Below Water #SDG 14, and Decent Work and Economic Growth #SDG 8.

Here’s an invite to the students and educators from around the World…
