Electric Vehicles, an alternative to the fossil fuels consuming vehicles and poisonous gaseous emissions. India is taking its baby steps in the direction of Electric Mobility. India as a whole is emphasizing on the fastest possible transition to Electric Vehicles, on the other hand, the states are contributing their fair share of responsibility towards achieving this feat. With Karnataka aims to become an EV manufacturing hub, Kerala is focusing on electric trains, electric buses, and on using energy-efficiency systems. Tamil Nadu, lauded for its comprehensive policy, has also created an EV venture capital fund, and Kolkata to have EV revolution and a complete shift to EVs by 2030, WRI is conducting Northeast Electric Mobility Conclave.
World Resources Institute (WRI) India, came into dialogue with the Government of Assam for drafting the Assam EV policy, its implementation and its outcomes in India for the faster transition to Electric Vehicles. To encourage this initiative even further, WRI India organized an EV workshop in Guwahati on 30th October 2019, aiming to speed up the adoption process of Electric Vehicles in Assam and other North-Eastern states of India. Mr. Ashutosh Agnihotri, Commissioner and Secretary to Govt. of Assam, Mr. A. P. Tiwari, Managing Director, ASTC Assam, Mr. Virendra Mittal, Transport Commissioner, Govt of Assam, representatives from Assam Govt and KPMG India, and Shravani Sharma of WRI India attended the initial discussion.
“A state-level workshop on the electrification of public transport will be conducted shortly in where all Managing Directors from State Road Transport Corporations are expected to attend and will discuss the challenges for the EV adoption in the Northeast,” said Amit Bhatt, Program Director, WRI India & Electric Mobility Forum
The Workshop was held for highlighting some of the key features regarding transition:
- To provide a clear understanding and firm grasp of these concepts to expedite the adoption of EVs and implement electric mobility in the best and most lucid possible way.
- Enhancement of policy and product development, and functioning and maintenance of EVs.
- To prioritize the fast adoption of the EV policy and the proper implementation.
WRI India is a non-profit research organization devoted to spheres that are highly relevant today, such as renewable energy, sustainable transport, climate action, and so on. With Assam taking steps towards EV implementation, WRI India has decided to conduct a state-level workshop in Guwahati, on the 30th of October 2019 said Shravani Sharma Project Associate – EVs (Infrastructure & Policy), WRI India.
