Empower Educators for Engaged Classrooms
Sustainability is defined as meeting our own needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
Sustainability is made up of three pillars: the economy, society, and the environment. These principles are also referred to as profit, people and planet.
Creating Green Spaces, Crop Rotation, Sustainable Design and Construction, Water Efficient Fixtures, Renewable Clean Energy, Waste to Energy Recycling, and Water Treatment are some examples of Sustainable Practices adopted worldwide.
In September 2015, Leaders from 193 countries created a plan called the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. This plan was a promise to build a just and fair world for people worldwide. The UN Agenda was to achieve these goals by 2030. An ambitious plan which would help to fight Poverty, Hunger, Climate Change and be responsible for Quality Education to all by 2030. There are 169 targets and 241 indicators associated with the 17 goals. The targets are to be achieved by all countries working together.
According to the World Food Programme, 135 million suffer from acute hunger due to problems we create for ourselves, climate change and economic challenges. The COVID-19 pandemic has further multiplied these numbers and more people are at risk of suffering from acute hunger and malnutrition.
As per Target 2.3 of Goal No.2: Zero Hunger, by 2030 we need to double the agricultural productivity and income of small scale food producers. We need to increase productivity and production by adopting resilient agricultural practices to achieve #SDG2: Zero Hunger.
At Kamla Nehru Public School we embraced #SDGs way back in December 2015. Ever since then our Annual Functions, Sports Day, Special Assemblies are all related to and focus on #SDGs. We have Annual #SDGs Fair in school and students and teachers of the neighbourhood schools are invited. We have mapped our K-12 curriculum with #SDGs. We practice, preach and promote #SDGs in our school.
