SECI Auctions 1.2 GW Solar Projects

The tariff dropped to Rs.2.5 per unit in SECI’s latest solar auction

SECI floats tender for 81 MW of solar PV power plant at Singareni Colleries, Telangana

The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has auctioned 1,200 MW (1.2 GW) of solar projects with a markedly improved response as compared to earlier auctions.

Softbank associated SB Energy, AMP Energy and EDF (French state-run entity) won 600 MW, 100 MW and 300 MW solar energy capacity respectively at a tariff of Rs.2.5 per unit. Renew Power won 200 MW at a tariff of Rs.2.51 per unit. The ceiling tariff in this auction was set at Rs.2.78 per unit. The winning tariff in this auction for 1.2 GW solar power was much less than the winning tariff of Rs.2.71 per unit in SECI’s previous auction in November, 2019.

The auction was successful owing to a tenet that allows for winning developers to compensate for increase in costs due to safeguard duty or any other factors, by increasing the tariffs if necessary. This was the third time the tender was issued due to a meager response in the last two applications. In the November auction, only 960 MW was allocated and in the auction prior to that in August, 2019, only two bidders won orders worth 480 MW.

On another note, SECI has floated a tender for design, engineering, supply, construction and commissioning of 81 MW (AC) solar photovoltaic power plant at Singareni Colleries Company Limited (SCCL), Telangana, India.

Greenko Energies Private Limited (GEPL), HES Infra Private Limited and Renew Solar Power Private Limited have emerged winners in SECI’s recently concluded bid for 1,200 MW ISTS (inter state transmission system) connected renewable energy power projects with assured Peak Power supply (ISTS-VII).
