Tata Power to Set Up More EV Charging Outlets Across The Nation

The interest in EVs is expanding at a phenomenal pace

Tata Power, one of India’s largest integrated power companies, is planning to set up more electric charging points throughout the nation. The company which is present in multiple EV segments like public charging, captive charging, home charging and workplace charging – has deployed different kinds of chargers like the DC 001, AC, Type2, Fast DC chargers up to 50kWh and also 240kWh chargers for the electric buses.

Tata Powers is currently present in 65 cities across the nation and owns over 400 charging points in total across these areas and now is trying to increase the footprint across 100 cities and setting up 700 charging points by the end of this year.

In a recent interview with an Autocar Professional, Sandeep Bangia, Head – EV, HA & ESCO Business, Tata Power, said: “We will get to 700 charging stations much earlier than December this year. We are quite bullish on the demand for EVs and are investing in the charging infrastructure in preparation for the impending demand. Last year despite Covid, the total number of EVs (4Ws, 2Ws and 3Ws) sold were a very sharp increase from the previous years. This was on the back of new and strong EV launches. Hence, we believe the interest in EVs is expanding at a phenomenal pace and it’s a market which is beginning to grow. We are currently available in about 65 cities and will soon expand to over 100 cities. The locations of our public charging stations are available on our state-of-the-art digital platform — the Tata Power EZ Charge app — which is available for download on both Android Play Store and iOS Store.”

One of the main drawbacks that Electric Vehicles currently face in India is the lack of Charging points across the cities which causes difficulty in charging them.

With initiatives of companies such as Tata, this issue can be resolved in near future which can help boost the EV market in India. Now that there are cheaper EV cars available in India the overall cost-effectiveness also increases which drive the crowd to purchase more EVs especially with the drastic increase in fuel prices in the global scale.

Tata Power has tied up with the Central Railway Mumbai recently in association with the UN Environment Program (UNEP) to set up charging facilities in the surrounding areas of the railway station.

The company aims to spread its reach across the nation by setting up EV charging facilities at major highways and popular tourist locations nationwide.
