Two Indian Companies Among a Few others Shortlisted for Uzbekistan Solar Project

ReNew Power and NTPC are two of the few other companies that have been shortlisted by the Uzbekistan Ministry of Energy for two of its solar power projects. It was in late June this year that the Uzbekistan government announced the tenders for these projects. Of the many companies applied both the Indian companies were shortlisted.

Earlier this year the projects were announced with a cumulative capacity of 1.4GW where one of the projects which is 1GW would be developed with the aid of Asian Development Bank which comes under the World Bank. The other is a 400 MW project. The companies were asked to submit their applications by September this year. The locations for these plants are in Samarkand and Jizzakh. The project is said to be in private-public partnership basis. A study revealed that the country has infinite potential in terms of solar energy and the government aims to develop this aspect in a decade’s time.

Uzbekistan is one of the many countries that has turned its attention to solar energy in the past few years.
The need for clean and green energy has become quite evident for these nations as global warming has increased at an alarming pace demanding immediate global attention especially due to the rise in sea level and rapid climate changes.

Though the nation had potential, Uzbekistan used to rely on natural gases to produce energy. Though the solar industry is still in development phase it has come a long way from when it first came into being. The potential of solar panels has greatly increased giving way to its demand in global market. Households, institutions, small scale industries and even larg scale industries have started to depend on Solar energy for its electricity.

The other tenders that got shortlisted for this project included both the UAE firms Masdar (Abu Dhabi) and ACWA(Dubai) who came at the top of the list for both the projects. The company will be finalized by the beginning of next year.
