C40 Cities Bloomberg Philanthropies Awards 2019 Finalists Includes India

C40 Cities connects more than 90 of the world’s leading cities to take bold climate action and build a healthier and more sustainable future. Representing 700+ million citizens and one-quarter of the global economy, mayors of C40 cities are committed to delivering on the most ambitious goals of the Paris Agreement at the local level, as well as to cleaning the air we breathe.

The C40 World Mayors Summit in Copenhagen was held between 9th-12th of October to build a global coalition of leading cities, businesses and citizens that rallies around the radical and ambitious climate action our planet needs.

The Summit showcased examples of how cities are already delivering on their strong commitments and accelerate the bold climate solutions needed for a sustainable, healthier, resilient and inclusive future.

C40 and Bloomberg Philanthropies announced the 26 city finalists for the 2019 C40 Cities Bloomberg Philanthropies Awards. The winners of the 2019 C40 Cities Bloomberg Philanthropies Awards were announced at the C-40 World Mayors Summit in Copenhagen on 10 October.

“Congratulations to every city that has been selected as a finalist of the 2019 C40 Cities Bloomberg Philanthropies Awards, The urgency of the climate crisis facing the world means that we need to be constantly recognizing the best ideas in how cities can tackle climate change. Every one of these projects deserves to be closely studied by mayors and city leaders around the world. I wish each city the very best of luck”, said Mayor of Paris and Chair of C40, Anne Hidalgo.

“Cities have a crucial role to play in the global fight against climate change, and these awards recognize cities that are leading the way, the finalists have developed bold and innovative projects to clean the air and water, expand renewable energy, promote low-carbon transit, and attack the climate crisis head-on. The health of our children and the stability of our planet depend on this vital work.”, said Michael R. Bloomberg, C40 Board President, UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Climate Action, Founder of Bloomberg Philanthropies and Mayor of New York City 2002-2013.

Some Cities from India made an entry to the list of finalists:

  • National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi, India – “Jal Swaraj” Safe Drinking Water Initiative. In the Resilience Category.
  • Green Mobility Category, Bengaluru, India – “Tender SURE” Urban Street Design for People, Kolkata India – Low Carbon Commute Transition
